Our History

The Social Revival Group of Urban Rural and Tribal (SROUT) is a grassroots non-governmental organization that works to promote and strengthen livelihoods, education and health for the needy rural & urban people in Chhattisgarh, India. SROUT began in 1999 in the Korba district of Chhattisgarh to be the implementing agency of a CARE India Integrated Nutrition and Health Program. As dreams of what Korba could be were shared with the CARE India staff, it became clear that a local organization was needed to make these visions of the future a reality. So SROUT was born and continues to this day to be involved in the development of the local community. The organization was named the Social Revival Group of Urban Rural and Tribal because we are committed to working with local people, making no distinction based on where they reside or to which caste they belong. The Sanskrit quotation located on the bottom of the logo reads: things are achieved by doing, and not by desiring alone. This acts as the foundation of our organization and we strive to stay true to this in every aspect of our work. We are privileged that our foundation was laid down by CARE-India, the World Largest International NGO. We have been mentored and guided by the experience officials of the CARE-India. Through INHP program we impacted approximately 2500 mothers and children in 80-100 villages every day then. Through this program we provided catalytic leadership in increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of the ICDS, which provides a basket of services at the grassroots and is, therefore easier to measure.

The flagship intervention for Social Revival Group of Urban Rural and Tribal (SROUT) from its very inception has been on improving health and nutrition services of women and children. The other thematic areas are Child rights and protection, Livelihood, Soil and Water conservation, Women empowerment and protection and Education. The organization has more broadly worked in early childhood development in collaboration with National and International organizations like women and child development department, CARE INDIA, BALCO CSR. The organization mobilized both urban and rural communities to get access to health and healthcare services. To support nutrition system, the organization worked to improve the service delivery system of Anganwadi centres. Child right and child protection is another major work of the organization. It helped marginalized people of korba district to improve their livelihood and soil and water conservation. Many trainings and skill development programmes are also conducted to educate the young and old men and women.
